Hope Springs Eternal

In defiance of the winter-like temperatures this week (30s/40s) here in Middle Tennessee, I am determined to remain hopeful and continue to look forward to warmer temps. Never mind that the maple tree I can see through my window is shivering in the arctic breeze. Ignore that we've had to turn on the heat in the house...again. Notice not the donning of turtlenecks and sweaters as we leave for church this morning. The calendar does not lie...it is spring!

See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come...~Song of Solomon 2:11-12

In anticipation of the season, I began a light and airy cardi for myself using a mishmash of the Half-a-Cardi (used as a guide for the top) and the lace pattern from the Lace-Edged Women's Hat (for the bottom half).

The yarn is Patons' Grace mercerized cotton in Ginger that I bought on clearance at Michael's for $2.49 a ball. I've been on a yarn diet for a while in anticipation of Stitches South, but who could pass up such a deal? Not me. The color is not the best for me -- I don't wear much green because is sometimes gives my skin a bit of a greenish tinge --

But this particular shade of green reminded me of spring leaves (and, again, there was the itty bitty price tag). Maybe it will look all right.

So coax out that cotton, pull out those pastels, bring out your bamboo, slink into that silk, wear those wonderful whites, and share your brightest brights. Winter is over!

Take heart, ye shivering masses. In the blink of an eye, the warm weather shall return...and then some!
